Your support ensures a well-equipped Shelter, maximizing resources for our mission: Supporting and empowering women and children to live free from domestic violence.

How to donate to Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter

Please make sure that you have made arrangements with us before you come to the shelter, ensuring that we are accepting the items you have to donate and prioritizing the safety of our guests, staff, and donors. Your generous donations play a crucial role in establishing a nurturing and safe haven for the women and children under our care. To maximize the impact of your contribution, we kindly request new or gently used items that are clean and in good condition, with thoughtful consideration of what you donate greatly appreciated due to limited space at the shelter. Prior to bringing in your donation, we encourage you to reach out to us to ensure that we can accommodate it, and we are thankful for your generosity and support.

Empowerment Essentials: Items That Make a Difference

We rely on essential items all year round, though some may vary depending on the season. Please check back to see our seasonal essential items that we are in need of.

Clothing & Care

Comfort & Creativity Essentials

  • Women's running shoes all sizes

  • Slippers sizes 8-10

  • Charging blocks

  • Android/Apple charging cords

  • Hair dryers

  • Baby monitor

  • Hair conditioner (More than shampoo)

  • Suitcases & Duffel Bags

 

Moderate Priority:

  • NEW Ladies & boys/girls underwear

  • Ladies bras, sports bras

  • Razors

  • Teen boy clothing & underwear

  • Backpacks

  • Baby formula, bottles, soothers, wipes

  • Crafting/art supplies i.e. beading, dream catcher kits, diamond art, canvas, paint, pastels, markers, pencil crayons, etc.

  • Journals

  • Reusable water bottles

  • Suitcases / luggage / duffel bags

We currently have enough of the following items: (Items we are NOT in need of)

  • Feminine Hygiene

    • (tampons, pads, etc.)​

Items we do not accept

We are so grateful for the donations that we receive weekly. Unfortunately 40% of the donations we receive are unusable or unsuitable for use by our guests at the shelter. We appreciate everyone's consideration, but due to limited storage and resources, we are unable to accept the following items:

  • Used children's toys, games, puzzles

  • Used stuffed animals

  • Cribs, bassinets, playpens

  • CD or DVDs (aside from children's movies/shows)

  • Jewelry 

  • School supplies

  • Used toiletries such as nail polish, hair products, etc.

  • Furniture

  • Electronics

  • Small appliances

  • Household items

  • Mattresses
