Change a life
To ensure women and children can leave homes that have become unsafe and begin rebuilding their lives, CAWES has expanded both its facilities and its services.
What began as a 40-bed emergency shelter has grown to include 50 emergency shelter beds, 17 units of transitional housing, and 23 units of affordable housing — creating a continuum of care that supports families from crisis to stability.
This expansion has allowed CAWES to serve more women and children fleeing violence and to provide the wraparound supports that foster long-term healing: trauma-informed support, risk assessments, safety planning, children’s support services, court support, and assistance with accessing education, employment, and housing stability.
But we still need your help.
With this growth come greater day-to-day costs — ensuring food on every table, warmth and light in every room, secure and welcoming spaces, and the essential programs that guide families on their journey to safety, recovery, and independence.
You can make a difference in the lives of women and children in their hour of need.
Let's welcome more vulnerable families to safety.

You can help provide a sanctuary from violence and support women and children on their way toward healing. With your help, this new facility will allow CAWES to not only serve more individuals and families, but also to serve them better - as they first escape immediate danger, and then begin to heal and gain independence.
Your donation will transform lives.
Together, we can create a space that offers safety, dignity, and hope for the future.
About our new home
The new CAWES facility replaces the original building constructed in the 1980's, which only had 40 emergency beds.
The new wheelchair-accessible and energy efficient facility includes 50 emergency shelter beds and 40 long-term transitional housing units.
Our new facility has common areas and multipurpose spaces, including a Wellness Centre for group sessions and educational activities.

Outdoor spaces with fenced green areas and a playground create a safe environment for children to heal and be themselves again.
Child-focused healing programs not only support children, but also help mothers learn new parenting skills and healthier ways to interact with their children, once their immediate safety is secured.
